"Mr. Botterill are you going to accept players on the Sabres to be invisible the first half of the season and then put up points when it doesn't really matter so their agent can have some leverage on the renewal of their upcoming contract?"

This would be my question.

Great Read as usual. This team was a mess. I blame a lot on the Defense. What a dumpster fire. They could not defend worth a poop, and for pete sake next year can we work on break out passes that are somewhere near the stick instead of 3 feet behind a player or directly into their skates.

GMJB has a ton of work to do....

The Sabres culture is losing.
In 47 years, they have how many good seasons?
Several in 70’s and 80’s, a couple in the late 90’s, and two of o5 and 06 seasons.
So, roughly let’s say 11sh, 15 on the high side (without checking).

30 some odd years of sucking...that IS their culture.

29 playoff appearances in 47 seasons.

6 conference finals(or equivalent) or better.

On a side note the NHL should just go back to this as their playoff format:

The bottom line is the losing has to stop, we can blame ROR and who ever the hell else people want to blame but the losing is taking it's toll on these players. Every player will express themselves differently on how it's effecting them and the team. The top 9 is bad, the Defense is bad, the goal tending is bad and on top of all that, it's just getting worse.

Hey Pach, congrats on another good year. I appreciate that you're able to mostly keep a level head and not get too high -or mostly low, unfortunately - on the things going on. You just say what's going on.

It's a refreshing departure from the bucky and Sullys of the world.

Hopefully next year you have some more fun post-games to write about

Don’t like the 1-16 idea
1-8 for each conference is best imo

They’d have to pay us to take Loui
He’ll be 33 to start next year & is signed at 6mil per for 4 more years

They’d have to at least give us their 1st for me to even consider it

Very well said on all fronts. The one thing i would add is that i didn't see any accountability or explanation why he had a -30 season, or anything like that. He basically just said "this sucks." His comments, but especially Johnson's comments are infuriating to me because they both sucked. Ocho is acting like the Sabres will be clamoring for his services, while being perhaps the worst goalie in the NHL this year.

His career took its final nail in the coffin against Nashville. He was god awful, and that's not on culture. That's on horrible rebound control and a general lack of athleticism. His positioning is ok, but all a shooter has to do is pick a hole.

So bye bye Ocho, but we're probably stuck with Johan unless he packs his poop for Sweden. I can't imagine any team giving anything up to have him.

edit: tampa, not nsh

He was done in his first start against NJ where he showed only token effort to make a save and flat gave up on a few and just waved at the puck as it went by.

Bogo and a 3rd for Loui and 2 seconds?

We'd be on the hook for 2 more years than Bogo, but

Meh nevermind. That contract is awful

Johnson's comments were down right laughable. A career back up goalie stating that the team has to show him something in order for him to play again here. Give me franking break with that nonsense. You put up .891 SP and 3.55 GAA and you are tell the team what do to? I know we were horrible and the Defense was a complete mess but come on .891 SP and 3.55 GAA??? Yikes...

You admitted he got beat up by a girl and blamed it on a black guy. Racist.
- Alex the Great

I believe it was a "huge black guy". And so what? His brother is an awful person, that's no reason to write off an entire family. I'm sure you have people in your family you vehemently disagree with. Every family, not necessarily immediate, has "that person".

No matter what system they go with, NHL fans will moan and complain about it.

If we went to 1-8, people would be complaining that the Bruins, TB and the Leafs got fat off of the weak teams in their division - so the current format isn't fair to Metropolitan teams.

If we went to 1-16, there would be the same complaints about east vs. west, and teams would have (probably legitimate) complaints about having to travel crazy distances (Vancouver vs. Florida would be fun in a seven game series).

Current system is fine. Let's just live with it.
